SCALE LENGTH
Scale length is the distance between nut and bridge.

The scale length of most lap dulcimers lies somewhere between 24 and 27 1/4 inches.

Why so many scale lengths? Players with small hands, especially women, prefer the shorter scales so they can finger chords more easily. Other players prefer the longer scale because it adds to the sonority of the instrument and makes tuning a little bit easier.

Personally, I prefer the 25.5 scale length as a good compromise between ease of playing and sonority.

You may order the scale length of your choice at no extra cost.
